Local Guide
Solar in Jacksonville: What Is Different Here
Going solar in Jacksonville is different mainly because of JEA. Most Duval County homes buy power from JEA, a city-owned utility that credits exported solar energy at a fuel rate far below the retail price you pay. That makes careful system sizing and battery storage more valuable here than in FPL or Duke Energy territory.
JEA Credits Solar Exports at a Fuel Rate
JEA does not pay the full retail rate for solar energy you export. Since April 2018, JEA has credited exports from new solar systems at its avoided fuel cost, 3.25 cents per kWh as of August 2026, while the power you buy back costs several times that. JEA measures in 15-minute intervals, so solar you don’t use right away is exported at that rate. Systems interconnected before April 2018 keep their legacy terms. Compare how Florida utilities credit solar.
FPL and Co-op Homes Follow Different Rules
Not every home near Jacksonville is a JEA customer. FPL serves parts of St. Johns County, and as an investor-owned utility it must credit solar exports at the full retail rate under Florida’s net metering rule. If an electric cooperative serves your home, the export rate in its tariff decides your savings. Your Solar Advisor models your system on your own utility’s rules.
Permits and HOA Approval
SunVena handles permitting for you. Most Duval County homes are permitted and inspected through the City of Jacksonville Building Inspection Division, while homes in unincorporated St. Johns County, such as Nocatee and Ponte Vedra Beach, and in Clay County, such as Fleming Island, go through those counties’ building departments. Your HOA can review panel placement but cannot ban solar under Fla. Stat. 163.04.
Engineered for Northeast Florida Storms
Every SunVena system in the Jacksonville area is engineered to the Florida Building Code wind-load requirements for the home’s location. The stricter High-Velocity Hurricane Zone rules apply only in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, but Jacksonville systems still go through the same engineering, permitting and inspection process, and our 25-year guarantee covers every roof penetration.

Battery Backup
Battery Backup and Hurricanes in Jacksonville
In Jacksonville, a home battery does two jobs. It keeps essential circuits running when a storm takes down the grid, and it stores daytime solar energy for use after sunset instead of exporting it to JEA at the fuel rate. That second job is why a battery changes the savings math more here than in FPL territory.
Tesla Powerwall 3
SunVena is a Tesla Premier Certified Installer, and our own crews install Tesla Powerwall 3 with new solar systems or as an addition to many existing ones. Your Solar Advisor sizes the battery to the circuits you want to keep running during an outage.
Enphase IQ Batteries
As an Enphase Platinum Installer, SunVena also installs Enphase IQ Batteries, a modular option that works with Enphase microinverter systems. JEA offers a battery incentive that can offset part of the cost, and your Solar Advisor will check what is available when you apply.

Jacksonville Solar FAQs
Who installs solar panels in Jacksonville, FL?
SunVena Solar installs solar panels and home batteries in Jacksonville and across Duval, St. Johns and Clay counties using its own in-house crews, never subcontractors. The company was founded in 2019, has completed more than 20,000 solar and battery installations in Florida, and holds a 4.9 out of 5 Google rating from more than 2,000 reviews. Its solar work is performed under Florida certified electrical contractor license EC13009447.
How much do solar panels cost in Jacksonville, FL?
The cost depends on your home’s energy use, your roof’s size and shading, the equipment you choose and whether you add a battery. Because JEA credits exported solar at a fuel rate, a well-designed Jacksonville system is sized to use as much of its own production as possible, which affects both the price and the savings. A SunVena Solar Advisor will give you a free, no-obligation quote based on your actual JEA or FPL bills.
Does JEA offer net metering in Jacksonville?
Not at the full retail rate for new solar customers. Since April 2018, JEA has credited energy that new systems send to the grid at its avoided fuel cost, 3.25 cents per kWh as of August 2026, instead of the retail price you pay for power, under its Distributed Generation policy. Systems interconnected before April 2018 keep their legacy net metering terms. Because exports are worth less, Jacksonville homeowners save the most by using their solar power at home, often with a battery. See how Florida utilities credit solar.
Is a solar battery worth it in Jacksonville?
For many JEA customers, yes. A battery stores daytime solar production for the evening, so energy that would otherwise be exported at JEA’s fuel rate offsets power you would buy at the retail price, and it keeps essential circuits running during outages. JEA also offers a battery incentive that can offset part of the cost. Your Solar Advisor will compare solar-only and solar-plus-battery designs for your home.
Who installs Tesla Powerwall in Jacksonville?
SunVena Solar is a Tesla Premier Certified Installer and installs Tesla Powerwall 3 in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida with its own crews. SunVena is also an Enphase Platinum Installer and installs Enphase IQ Batteries. A battery can be installed with a new solar system or added to many existing systems. Learn about Tesla Powerwall installation.
Can my HOA stop me from installing solar panels in Jacksonville?
No. Florida law (Fla. Stat. 163.04) prevents homeowners associations and deed restrictions from prohibiting solar panels. An HOA can have a say in where roof panels are placed, but not in a way that impairs how well the system works. SunVena helps prepare HOA submittals as part of the permitting process. Read our guide to HOAs and solar in Florida.
Does solar increase property taxes in Jacksonville, FL?
No. Under Fla. Stat. 193.624, any increase in your home’s value from a residential solar energy system may not be counted when your property is assessed, so installing solar does not raise your property taxes in Duval, St. Johns or Clay County.
Do I have to pay sales tax on solar panels in Florida?
No. Florida exempts solar energy systems and their components from state sales and use tax under Fla. Stat. 212.08(7)(hh). The exemption covers the parts of a solar energy system, including panels, inverters and mounting hardware.
Can Jacksonville homeowners still get the federal solar tax credit?
Not for a new home solar system installed in 2026. The 30% federal Residential Clean Energy Credit applied to systems installed from 2022 through December 31, 2025, and per the IRS it is not available for property placed in service after that date. If your system was installed by the end of 2025 and the credit exceeded the tax you owed, you can carry the unused amount forward to future tax years. Leased systems can still carry federal savings under Section 48E if they are installed and operating by December 31, 2027. Tax situations vary, so confirm eligibility with a tax professional. Learn more about federal tax incentives for solar.
How do I choose a reputable solar installer in Jacksonville, FL?
Look for a company with a track record of installations in your area, strong customer reviews, industry certifications, its own installation crews and a warranty of at least 20 years covering products, labor and production. Ask for customer references and compare written proposals before you decide. SunVena is happy to provide references from Northeast Florida customers.
